During the 3-hour 2014 Bet Awards Show, a "special" performance by the king and queen of music JayZ and Beyonce, was hyped up only to be shown a rehashed clip of one their concert performances. After investing 3 hours, we were tricked. Here are 3 ways to NOT market like JayZ and Beyonce.
1. Be sure your product or service lives up to the hype. Here's where the quote under promise and over deliver comes in. Instead, accurately sell your services and product and then over deliver.
2. Be certain your client is as happy with your service or product AFTER they have bought it. A win-win is the best outcome where the client and stylist are happy after the sale. So much so. the client looks forwarding to coming back more often, spending more money, and referring more people to you. If you trick your client and or deliver less than what was expected ultimately you'll lose.
3. When cross-promoting or working with other people or organizations, be clear about client expectations so as to not misrepresent and tarnish your brand when the client receives an inferior product.
In a nutshell, after spending 3 hours watching the show, being shown a clip from a concert, didn't make me want to buy a ticket to the concert which was the intent. I felt cheated and in my mind their brand was a little damaged. This is how not to market like Jayz and Beyonce.
